Auditions

In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids – probably the most inventively awful kids in history.
To audition, you must complete both steps below:

Shows: December 4, 5, 10, and 11 at 7:30 PM & December 6, 12, and 13 at 2:30 PM

Tech: November 29 & 30 and December 1, 2 & 3

Full Cast Read Through & Rehearsals: TBD; rehearsal schedule to follow.

We welcome ages 8 and up to audition for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” We will provide script excerpts for actors to look over in the lobby and then we will read the scene with you.

We will take your headshot and measurements before you leave, so please come photo-ready.

CHARACTERS:
  • FATHER (Bob Bradley) – Solid family man, age 35–38
  • MOTHER (Grace Bradley) – Female age 35ish; mom who reluctantly directs the pageant
  • BETH BRADLEY – The narrator; strong voice and presence, age 10–11
  • CHARLIE BRADLEY – Traditional kid brother, age 8–9 
  • RALPH HERDMAN– Ragged, scroungy, slouching, with a touch of adolescent cool, age 12–13 (plays Joseph)
  • IMOGENE HERDMAN – Loud, bossy, and crafty, age 11–12 (plays Mary)
  • LEROY HERDMAN – Tough and sure of himself, age 10–11 (plays Wise Man)
  • CLAUDE HERDMAN – Tough and combative, age 9–10 (plays Wise Man)
  • OLLIE HERDMAN – Looking for trouble, Claude’s partner in crime, age 8–9 (plays Wise Man)
  • GLADYS HERDMAN – Small, wiry, and feisty, age 7–8 (plays Angel of the Lord)
  • MRS. ARMSTRONG – Female age 50ish, managerial and bossy voice/manner
  • REVEREND HOPKINS – Church minister, middle to late 40s
  • MRS. MCCARTHY – Younger, less imperious version of Mrs. Armstrong, middle 40
  • Ensemble Adults – Mrs. Slocum, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Clausing, ages 35–60
  • ALICE WENDLEKEN – Prim, proper, and a pain in the neck, age 10–11
  • MAXINE, ELMER HOPKINS, DORIS – Featured kids in the pageant/Sunday school, ages 9–13
  • Younger Kids / Chorus – Hobie, David, Beverly, Shirley, Juanita (ages 5–10)
  • FIREMAN (2 roles) – Community members, ages 25–30
  • Chorus – Extra angel choir members, baby angels, and shepherds

Casting is flexible as to age, gender, and for a range from first-time to seasoned performers.
