Ennis Public Theatre (EPT) is dedicated to use our talents to create an environment of artistic integrity in producing the highest quality live theatre as we entertain, educate, encourage and inspire.

In a spirit of benevolence, excellence and integrity, Ennis Public Theatre will use our talents and the collective talents of those who serve with us to produce the highest quality live intimate theatre possible.  To create an environment that will foster growth and achievement for performers. To be a destination for many who would experience a stream of artistic life and vitality that will ENTERTAIN, EDUCATE, ENCOURAGE and INSPIRE.

EPT moved into its beautiful historic downtown space in January 2017 where there is a wide variety of restaurants and shops to enhance your entertainment experience.

Our Approach

Community drives our theatre. We like to think that we're different because we truly believe in giving as many people as possible a chance to showcase their talent, gain skills and knowledge, and learn about the performing arts. If you have an interest, we want to work with you.

Our Story

Ennis Public Theatre began as the dream of a husband and wife who had a vision for bringing theatre to an underserved area and developing a cultural center. Ennis Public Theatre became a 501c3 organization in 2004 and continues to enrich many lives today.

We believe in nurturing the talents of tomorrow's artists. Annually, we offer a $1,000 arts scholarship to a graduating senior from Ellis County who is pursuing a degree in music, theatre, dance or any other fine art.

Meet the Team

We work hard in a fun and creative atmosphere.

Julie Mitchell and Markus Baldwin, Artistic Directors

Markus Baldwin and Julie Mitchell met in Los  Angeles where they were both working as professional actors in commercials and television, but their first love has always been theatre. Individually they have performed sketch comedy and improvisation on some of the most famous stages in the world. Together they have produced and directed three award-winning films and many stage productions. They also enjoy teaching classes and leading team building workshops. They own Outside the Lines Creative Studios in Corsicana, and have two kids they are very proud of, Mae and Bennett.

They still enjoy working as actors and are especially happy to have the opportunity to direct shows at Ennis Public Theatre. The chance to be part of a creative community and to bring more artistic endeavors to their community, is the calling that brought them to Texas.

Brett Schmidt, Community Outreach Coordinator

Brett Schmidt was raised on a farm in Frost, TX. She was very active in FFA from elementary school through college showing animals across the country. She found her true passion in 7th grade when she auditioned for her first one act play. Since then, theatre has always been a part of her life. She met her husband performing in a scene from Beauty and the Beast while at Texas A&M University in College Station while studying Agriculture Communications and Journalism. From there, she went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Drama with a focus on directing, acting, and cultural travel at Texas Woman's University.
She has directed dozens of plays and musicals for grades kindergarten through high school, and she still enjoys acting in shows when she can.
She loves working as the Community Outreach Coordinator for EPT in addition to acting full time for film, tv, and commercial work.
As a resident of Ennis, she loves to go with her husband and children, James and Emilia, to the downtown area to shop and play at the gazebo, or to one of the many parks in town. She also enjoys baking, sipping hot tea, binge watching British TV shows, and reading everything about the British royal family.
